Disney World is absolutely massive, home to four theme parks, two water parks, a shopping and dining district, and dozens of hotels. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that, from time to time, areas of the resort need to close to undergo some TLC. To help you better plan your trip, we’re sharing a complete guide to the Disney World refurbishment schedule that is currently planned in 2024 and 2025, so you won’t have any surprises during your vacation!

Magic Kingdom Refurbishments and Closures
- Country Bear Jamboree: Opening July 17, 2024
- Peter Pan’s Flight: Closed for refurbishment through August 20, 2024
- Jungle Cruise: Closing for refurbishment August 26, 2024.
In January 2024, Country Bear Jamboree closed to undergo work to become the newly reimagined Country Bear Musical Jamboree, with a reopening planned for July 17, 2024. Currently Peter Pan’s Flight is closed for refurbishment with a reopening date of August 21, 2024, while Jungle Cruise will close for an undisclosed length of time beginning August 26, 2024.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Refurbishments and Closures
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster: Closed January 8, 2024, through July 26, 2024
- Voyage of the Little Mermaid: Reopening as The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure in fall 2024
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is again closed for a lengthy refurbishment from early 2024 with plans to reopen on July 27, 2024. And in fall 2024, the newly reimagined The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure will open in place of the previous Voyage of the Little Mermaid, offering a new take on the retelling of The Little Mermaid on stage.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Refurbishments and Closures
- It’s Tough to Be a Bug: Closing TBD
At Destination D23 in 2023, it was revealed that It’s Tough to Be a Bug! would eventually be rethemed to a Zootopia story. No plans or dates have yet been announced, so as of now the attraction remains unchanged and open as usual.
EPCOT Refurbishments and Closures
- Test Track: Closed June 17 for reimagining
- Frozen Ever After: November 2nd to November 6th, 2024
As for Test Track, it closed on June 17 for an unannounced amount of time to undergo its own reimagining. Rest assured, the spirit of the ride will still remain, but from the concept art released, the new look will be a bit more futuristic in nature.
Water Park Refurbishments and Closures
- Blizzard Beach: Currently closed for annual refurbishment
- Typhoon Lagoon: Opened March 17, 2024
Every year, Disney World’s two water parks alternate openings so that one can undergo an annual refurbishment. Currently, Typhoon Lagoon is the park that is open, while Blizzard Beach undergoes its annual refurbishment through late fall.
Disney World Resort Hotel Refurbishments and Closures
Beach Club Resort & Villas
- Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool: Closed from January 2025 to June 2025
Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
- Cake Bake Shop: Opening 2024
- Resort Refurbishments: Ongoing
Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Villas are currently undergoing refurbishment, with a redesigned lobby and rooms
Disney’s Contemporary Resort
- Bay Lake Tower Room Refurbishments: September 2024 to 2025
Rooms will be getting refurbished from September 2024 to September 2025. Guests can still book during this time, they may just hear construction noises as unoccupied rooms are worked on.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds
- New Cabins Opening: Ongoing
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Cabins will be getting a fresh new look, with the first batch of cabins having opened on July 1, 2024. These new cabins are considered a brand new Disney Vacation Club property, with more phases expected over the next year.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
- Resort Refurbishments: Ongoing
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is currently undergoing refurbishment, with a redesigned lobby and rooms. Guests may hear or see construction, though not between dusk and 9 AM.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
- Island Tower: Opening December 2024.
A new DVC tower, the Island Tower, will open at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in December 2024. The new tower will offer 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom villa options.
Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter
- Room Refurbishments: May 2024 to November 2024
Disney World Transportation Refurbishments and Closures
- None are planned as of June 2024
